Studio Equipment
Aphek is fully equipped to record (almost) anything. We’ve always specialised in, and are known for accurately recording live performances. We don’t rely on digital keyboards, samples, amp simulators and fake drums, for our core sounds (unless that’s what you actually want).
We record bands and solo performers; ranging from opera singers and string quartets, through rock, jazz, pop, funk, hardcore punk and folk/indigenous music.
Guitars & Amplifiers
There’s a large assortment of guitars and amps.
The studio is equipped with a beautiful 1968 Yamaha C7 concert grand piano, Hammond A100 (exactly the same internals as the B3/C3), with Leslie 222 (same as a 122, in the ‘furniture’ cab).
A rare Columbia EP-708T (‘70s Japanese cross between a Rhodes and Wurlitzer).
We have a Pearl Reference Pure drum-kit, Zildjian cymbals, and collection of snares.
Console
We’re recording through an Audient ASP8024 console, with high end outboard, into Pro Tools HDX, for no latency.

Mixing
Mixing is a complex process, and the time it takes depends entirely on the artists’ vision.
Prep for mixing involves audio being comped into individual tracks, and timing/pitch corrections. Effects are added, and then it is all about balancing the mix. At Aphek, Greg lets the song dictate how it needs to be mixed, and comes at every job with fresh ears, and a willingness to experiment to consolidate the artist’s vision into the mix in every way possible. Greg is always willing to develop the mix extensively as it moves towards a finished product.
