Welcome to Behind the Desk

Hi, I’m JD, I (kind-of) live at Aphek, and writing is more my thing than Greg’s so I’ll be writing about the studio, our new audio venture, and other bits and pieces… I spend a lot of my life with creative people, with musicians, people who are passionate about good sounds, and working hard on their craft… well, the time has come.

I just want to share more about that – crack it open a bit – so you can get a look behind the scenes, behind the desk and into the science and passion that makes great audio engineering work.

Aphek studio, is owned and operated by Greg Dixon. He’s built the studio from the ground up; from layering the soundproofing materials to gathering an impressive collection of recording gear and instruments to make the in-room experience at Aphek a creative kitchen for sound, and a safe place to do your best work.

Greg is passionate about helping people get the best possible tone from themselves (“Hi vocalists”), their instruments, and equipment. When it comes to micing, set up and looking after musicians in the room, he’s super-focussed on helping people to be relaxed and able to do their best work.

He eats, breathes and sleeps this stuff. This care transfers to his work creating Captures, as well as Profiles, and Tone Models.

Over the coming weeks I will be introducing you to the Amp profiles that Greg has been making, so you can discover more about sound, music and getting great tone.
